Friendly reminders
You guys might be wondering what to write and what to submit for your title defense. Here are the parts and their descriptions:
1. Background of the study – This cites the sine qua non of the study, i.e. why you came up with the study. It answers what is the theoretical/practical basis of your study. You may use some of your sources from your bibliography here.
2. Statement of the Problem – This is the exact question that you want answered at the end of your study. Your main research problem then should be broken down into sub-problems that will help you solve your problem.
3. Scope and Delimitation – this answers the 4Ws and 1H of your thesis:
a. WHO will be your subject?
b. WHAT is your topic? What are your variables?
c. WHEN: How long is your research time frame?
d. WHERE is your locale?
e. HOW will you gather your data? How will you interpret the results? How will you go by your study?
4. Definition of Terms – define each operative word on your research title and some terms which may not be understood. This is very much an extension of your S&D.
5. Significance of the study – The last W. WHY is this study important. What’s in it for the reader?
Then, your REFERENCES. (BSPA 3-2 and BSCS 3-2 on APA, MC 3-1 on MLA).
Important note: It is better to read an actual study. ^_^
